We woke up Sunday morning to bright sunshine streaming into the room. Out the bathroom window I could see the snow-frosted Olympic mountains crystal clear. So I scrapped my yoga plans and instead we headed to Rattlesnake Ledge for a 2 hour hike, dog in tow. Today was also my Great Backyard Bird Count day, so I pledged to identify birds for at least 15 minutes at the top. This turned out to be very easy; the only birds we saw were three Gray Jays (two are pictured here), who pitched up as soon as we pulled our lunch out. Their sweet melodies provided lunchtime entertainment, and Cosmo was smitten with them too.
The moss-spattered trees were gorgeous in their own way (below). It was so good to be out in nature for a change!
