One of the many things I learnt from Ron is that the only filters he uses are circular polarizers and graduated neutral density filters. I.e. he does NOT use UV/haze filters. On closer inspection they proved to be Cedar Waxwings, one of my favorite birds and only the second time I've seen them! They would eat a few crabapples and then fly back across the street to rest and digest on the power lines. On the far left is a blue Spanish Fir (slow growing) and to the right of it a Weeping Alaska Cedar, likely of the Strict Weeping variety (stays very narrow). Behind them is an arrangement of 'Glamour' azaleas that were on special at Lowe's for $2.76 a piece. Not only are the blossoms both beautiful and fragrant, and not only can you harvest crabapples for jelly in the fall, but they attract the local birds too. One of them's gone up on the NW corner of our property, and looks quite smashing if I do say so myself.
